Types Of Jadeite
Type A Jadeite: The Natural Standard
Type A jadeite is completely natural. It has not been chemically treated or altered, except for traditional waxing to enhance its luster and protect its surface.
Authenticity: Type A jadeite is all natural, making it the most desirable type. It represents the true beauty of jadeite as nature intended.
Durability: Untreated jadeite retains its structural integrity, ensuring it lasts for generations.
Market Value: It commands the highest prices in the market due to its rarity and natural state.
Type B Jadeite: The Unwanted Compromise
Type B jadeite has been chemically treated to improve its appearance. It is typically bleached with acid to remove impurities and then filled with polymer resin to enhance translucency and stability.
Artificial Enhancement: The chemical treatments and polymer filling alter the stone’s natural state, making it unauthentic.
Durability: The polymer resin can be damaged over time, especially when exposed to heat or chemicals.
Type C Jadeite: The Unacceptable Option
Type C jadeite is dyed to enhance or alter its color. It also undergoes the same bleaching and polymer treatments as Type B.
Artificial Appearance: The dye creates unnatural, uneven colors that may fade over time, significantly reducing its aesthetic value.
Low Durability: The dye and polymer treatments make it less stable and prone to damage.
Filling Cracks: A Red Flag
Why it’s done:
Cracks are filled to improve the stone’s appearance and stability, especially in Type B and Type C jadeite.
How to identify filled cracks:
Magnification: Look for the "flash effect" or uneven textures under a jeweler’s loupe or microscope.
UV Light: Polymer-filled areas may fluoresce under UV light.
